Malou Beauvoir Introduces OUR VODOU Book 2, Celebrating Haiti's Heritage Through Children's Storytelling

Haitian-American author expands her children's book series celebrating Haitian history, ancestral traditions and cultural pride.

The spirits that carried us across oceans still walk beside us today — and it's time our children knew their names.”
— Malou Beauvoir
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Haitian-American singer, songwriter, actress, designer and author Malou Beauvoir is celebrating the release of OUR VODOU: A Vodou Bedtime Tale — Book 2: Haiti, Land of Mountains, the latest installment in her illustrated children's book series published by Modern Manbo.

The new book continues the OUR VODOU series by introducing young Akiko, who arrives in Ayiti with his mother and discovers a land of breathtaking mountains, unfamiliar customs and ancient wisdom. Through storytelling and vivid illustrations, the series introduces young readers and their families to Haiti's history, cultural heritage and ancestral traditions.

Beauvoir recently introduced Book 2 at Haitian Ladies Weekend: Igniting Our Power 2026, held October 2–4 in Washington, D.C. Selected as one of four featured new authors at Dr. Solanges Vivens' Author's Corner, she shared her work with attendees during a weekend celebrating Haitian culture, creativity and community.

The author also participated in the weekend's musical celebrations, opening the event's 20th Signature Brunch with a performance of the Haitian national anthem.

A Children's Book Series Rooted in Haitian Heritage

The OUR VODOU series began with OUR VODOU: A Vodou Bedtime Tale, which uses a grandmother's bedtime story to introduce young readers to African ancestral roots, the Middle Passage and the origins of Haiti.

The first book is now available in three languages:

English: OUR VODOU: A Vodou Bedtime Tale

French: NOTRE VODOU: Un Petit Conte Vodou

Haitian Creole: VODOU NOU: Yon Vwayaj Majik

The second installment, Haiti, Land of Mountains, is currently available in English. French and Haitian Creole editions are planned for January 2027.

A third book, OUR VODOU: A Vodou Bedtime Tale — Book 3: The Fight for Freedom, is planned for late November 2026. The forthcoming story continues Akiko's journey as he grows older and introduces young readers to Boukman and Cécile Fatiman, two figures associated with the historic Bois Caïman ceremony of 1791.

The collection also includes standalone coloring books in English and Haitian Creole, available in standard and premium formats.

Why Malou Beauvoir Created OUR VODOU

For Beauvoir, the books are part of a larger effort to make Haitian heritage accessible to children and families while encouraging a more respectful understanding of Vodou.

“I believe our children deserve stories that help them discover the richness of their heritage,” says Beauvoir.

“Through OUR VODOU, my hope is to make Haitian history and ancestral traditions more accessible to children and families, while encouraging curiosity, cultural pride, and respectful understanding of Vodou, a tradition that is so often misunderstood. Every new book brings us one step closer to that mission.”

By combining imaginative storytelling with illustrations inspired by Haiti's landscapes, history and spiritual traditions, Beauvoir hopes the books will encourage conversations across generations and help young readers connect with their cultural roots.
