Border Patrol arrests Honduran illegal alien with extensive criminal record dating back to 2002
APPLETON, N.Y. — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a Honduran illegal alien with a significant criminal history.
On Aug. 20, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Niagara Falls Station encountered Pablo Ordonez-Melendez, a 48-year-old Honduran man. During the immigration inspection, agents determined Ordonez-Melendez was unlawfully present in the United States. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Niagara Falls Station.
During processing, agents discovered Ordonez-Melendez had an extensive criminal history dating back nearly 25 years including sexual assault against minors, grand larceny, assaults with intent to cause injury, endangerment, bail jumping, possession of stolen property and numerous traffic offenses. Ordonez-Melendez is currently on probation in New York and is considered a probation violator.
“This arrest is a clear example of our agents’ commitment to public safety,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent James D’Amato, Buffalo Sector. “Those who violate our immigration laws and have serious criminal histories will be identified, arrested, and removed from the United States. We will continue to protect our border and keep dangerous individuals out of our communities.”
Ordonez-Melendez was processed by Border Patrol agents and is currently in the custody Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations awaiting deportation proceedings.
