Sheinbaum Accuses US of Interference in Mexico’s Internal Affairs
Speaking before thousands of supporters, Sheinbaum highlighted her administration’s progress two years into its term while also condemning what she described as a “media offensive and multimillion-dollar social media campaigns” aimed at undermining her government.
She referred to rising diplomatic tensions with the United States under President Donald Trump, saying Mexico has faced increasing pressure to comply with Washington’s security demands.
Sheinbaum questioned the motivations behind the criticism, asking whether it reflects genuine concern over organized crime or whether political actors in the US are using Mexico as part of their broader electoral strategies.
“Is this really a legitimate, genuine interest in helping Mexico? Is it truly a legitimate effort to combat organized crime? Or are we perhaps witnessing sectors of the American far right using our country to position themselves ahead of the 2026 elections? Or are they attempting to influence our country’s 2027 election?” she said.
“These are rhetorical questions, Mexico is not anyone’s piñata!” Sheinbaum added.
She also alleged that both domestic and foreign conservative groups are contributing to coordinated online campaigns against her administration through the use of digital platforms, algorithms, paid bots, and fake accounts.
