Guterres Monitors Cuba Amid Escalating Fuel Shortages, Urges for Dialogue
“The Secretary-General has been following the situation in Cuba extremely closely, and I can tell you that he's very concerned about the situation in Cuba, which is worsening as oil needs continue to be unmet,” Stephane Dujarric said at a recent press briefing.
Dujarric recalled the UN General Assembly’s repeated calls to end the US embargo on Cuba, urging all parties to engage in dialogue and uphold international law. He also emphasized that UN teams are working with the Cuban government to provide humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
The fuel shortage has worsened after the US cut off oil shipments from Venezuelaan President Nicolas Maduro and seized oil tankers, effectively halting critical fuel deliveries.
