Graham Declares Cuba’s Future in Jeopardy

(MENAFN) US Senator Lindsey Graham asserted that Cuba’s “days are numbered” following a military campaign by Washington described as a “large-scale strike,” which led to the detention of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro.

“Just wait for Cuba. Cuba is a communist dictatorship that has killed priests and nuns, they have preyed on their own people, their days are numbered,” Graham told journalists on Sunday while aboard Air Force One with US President Donald Trump.

He further remarked, "We're going to wake up one day, I hope in 2026, in our backyard we're going to have allies in these countries doing business with America, not narco-terrorist dictators killing Americans.”

On Saturday, Trump revealed that the US military’s actions in Venezuela had resulted in the capture of Maduro and his spouse, Cilia Flores. He also pledged that Washington would maintain authority over the nation temporarily, deploying American forces if deemed necessary.

Maduro and Flores were transported to New York late Saturday and are currently held at a detention facility in Brooklyn. They face federal charges in the US connected to narcotics trafficking and alleged collaboration with groups labeled as terrorist organizations.
Maduro has rejected these allegations, while officials in Caracas have demanded the couple’s release.

Meanwhile, Cuba reported on Sunday that 32 of its fighters were killed during the US intervention in Venezuela. In response, President Miguel Diaz-Canel declared January 5 and 6 as national days of mourning.
