Senator Graham Warns Cuba After US Attack in Venezuela
“Just wait for Cuba. Cuba is a communist dictatorship that has killed priests and nuns, they have preyed on their own people, their days are numbered,” Graham told reporters Sunday aboard Air Force One while accompanying US President Donald Trump.
He added: "We're going to wake up one day, I hope in 2026, in our backyard we're going to have allies in these countries doing business with America, not narco-terrorist dictators killing Americans.”
On Saturday, Trump announced that the US military action in Venezuela resulted in the detention of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
He also pledged to maintain American control over the country temporarily, with US forces if necessary.
Maduro and Flores were flown to New York late Saturday and are currently held at a detention facility in Brooklyn. They face federal charges related to drug trafficking and alleged collaboration with gangs designated as terrorist organizations.
Maduro has rejected the allegations, while officials in Caracas have demanded the release of the couple.
Meanwhile, Cuba reported that 32 of its fighters were killed during the US intervention in Venezuela. President Miguel Diaz-Canel declared January 5 and 6 as national days of mourning in response.
